Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Johnson County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the exchange. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may automatically receive routine technical details about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The visited pages and approximate time spent
- Device category and operating system
- Browser type and version
- Device IP address
- A referring website, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure aggregate traffic, popular pages, and points where visits end. Analytics vendors may help compile those patterns. A browser can block or remove cookies, although parts of the site may then work in a different way.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Johnson County Criminal History does not build, store, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official routes to the Johnson County Sheriff, the Iowa District Court in Johnson County, Iowa DCI, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. The Johnson County Attorney is linked where prosecution or expungement notice is relevant. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data are not assembled into a consumer report or a personal file about someone else.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search tools. Information submitted through one of those boxes is governed by that provider's privacy policy. The provider, not this site, decides how long to retain the input and when it may be shared. Review those terms before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links lead to Johnson County offices, Iowa court and agency portals, other government resources, and outside search services. Once a reader follows a link, the destination's privacy rules govern. Check those rules before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking is controlled by their policies.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data are not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance

Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from a person under 18. If such information is identified, it will be removed.
Your Data Rights
Iowa Code chapter 22 governs access to public records held by government custodians, while Iowa Code chapter 692 governs criminal-history dissemination and a subject's access or correction request. Those laws do not turn this private site into a public custodian. Subject to applicable law and the data actually held here, you may:
- Request deletion of personal data we hold
- Ask what personal data we retain about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Object to certain processing when the law provides that choice
